Bio-Mechanical Assessment

Bio-mechanical weaknesses in the foot can be the root cause of chronic musculoskeletal conditions in the foot, ankle, knee, hip, pelvis and spine. Correcting these biomechanical weaknesses may be the key to resolving chronic conditions in a patient suffering with chronic pain.

Bio-Mechanical assessments are carried out by our Physiotherapists and Podiatrists, using their standard examination techniques, supplemented by the use of Gaitscan computer assisted analysis equipment.

Our practitioners may then use orthotic devices in the management of foot/ankle complaints and in the management of chronic conditions affecting the lower extremities, pelvis and spine as part of an overall plan of management that may also include manipulation, Physiotherapy and functional rehabilitation.

The Gaitscan equipment comprises a digitized pressure plate which generates a digital image of the pressure patterns created through the weight bearing portion of the gait cycle. This pattern is then analysed to determine whether the patient would benefit from the use of orthotics and, if so, the results allow the generation of a customized orthotic device to match the patients foot function and provide dynamic support.
