Infertility Treatment

The Treatment of Infertility With Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Infertility is becoming an increasingly common problem in the UK ranging from:

  • Unexplained infertility (25%)
  • Tubal infection damage (20%)
  • Endometriosis (5%)

Most infertility is merely impaired fertility or subfertility that can be improved with correct diagnosis and appropriate treatment. A normal healthy pregnancy depends on many factors and the state of the body's balance. Within the Acupuncture assessment at Parks Therapy Centre, the theory of two medical systems are brought together in order to facilitate heath and balance and prepare the body for fertilisation.

A combination of Western medical assessment involving close liaison with patients GPs, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in order to:

  • Understand the underlying diagnosis and dysfunction
  • Work with current Western Medical interventions
  • Enhance Western medication
  • Arrive at a clear diagnosis
  • Use a clinical reasoning approach to management and outcomes

An in depth Traditional Chinese Medical (TCM) Assessment will enable the clinician to:

  • Achieve an accurate diagnosis of imbalance and organ dysfunction
  • Choose the right treatment at the right time for clinical effectiveness
  • Work towards the objective of a healthy live pregnancy

Clinicians at Parks Therapy Centre who specialise in this area of infertility have an in depth knowledge of:

  • Reproductive physiology
  • Traditional Chinese Medicine
  • Western Medicine

Chinese medicine describes and categorises patterns of symptoms and signs an individual manifests under certain circumstances. A full diagnosis is made based upon a number of health facts, as infertility has so many different causes both in male and female physiology and at different stages of the fertility cycle namely:

  • Conception
  • Early pregnancy and miscarriage
  • Heath status of the gametes (eggs and sperm)
  • Assisted Reproduction (ART)
  • In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF)

TCM treatment can be highly effective at each treatment stage, however, not all cases, not even most cases, are successful even with correct treatment. The relationship that develops between the practitioner and woman (or couple) trying to conceive is intimate; it is often a lengthy relationship, nearly always an emotional and intense one.

To procreate is our deepest and most primal instinct the only biological reason we are here- If the attempt to achieve pregnancy is thwarted the distress becomes both cellular, emotional and biological. Lylleton J (2004)

Practitioners specialising in infertility at Parks Therapy Centre have received extensive training, combined with an empathy and compassion to succeed. They will share hope, disappointment and hopefully joy with their patients. The treatment of infertility is not an easy road to take for any practitioner; it is even harder for the patient to tread. No treatment can be guaranteed but every opportunity will be offered to alleviate the suffering of infertility and assisting our patients in their goal for a healthy live birth.

Treatment will consist of:

  • A lengthy medical and TCM assessment
  • A clear understanding of the female or male diagnosis of infertility
  • A clear understanding of treatment expectations
  • A clear understanding of patient expectations
  • A clear understanding of nutrition and life changes required from patients
  • A clear understanding of the therapeutic alliance between patient and practitioner
  • A proposed protocol of treatment with outline of costs including any supplements of Herbal Medicine
  • A clear understanding of the therapeutic alliance between patient and practitioner
  • Clear consent
  • An agreed contract to treat
